In the 1930s the artist and historian Marie Hartley carved exquisite woodblocks to illustrate her now classic books on Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale. Nearly ninety years on, I reprinted the Marie Hartley engravings and created a collection of my own collagraph prints. My prints of birds, flowers and Dales scenes have been inspired by re-tracing and repeatedly running along the paths that Marie Hartley walked.
The two-year project, entitled Ink Inspiration, culminated in 'The View from the Fells - In the footsteps of Marie Hartley', a special exhibition at the Dales Countryside Museum (DCM) in Hawes that took place in Autumn 2020. Featuring 25 of my new collagraphs, 15 wood engravings created by Marie Hartley (and reprinted by me) plus artefacts from both our studios: sketchbooks, printing blocks, tools & photographs. You can see more information about the exhibition via the museum website HERE
Anyone interested in buying a print from this project should use the CONTACT form to make an enquiry, thank you.
NB Sizes are for image only, the prints invariably have at least 1 1/2" paper border surrounding the image making them suitable for mounting and framing. 'Variable edition' means that there will be slight variations across the editions due to the nature of the hand printing process, these are often indiscernible to customers. I can send a photograph of the print available to be approved before purchase.
