Using birds, real or imagined, as your inspiration, the first day will be spent exploring collage, cutting and painting techniques to create textural printing plates that are often as lovely as the prints. On the second day you will print your birds – both in monochrome and colour. You will discover what papers work best to print on, how to prepare them for printing and how to use pressure to get the best detail. The session aims to show you how you can create great work with little investment in gear. Find out how to use basic domestic recycled materials as printmaking plates, find out what household items can be used in place of a press, learn why traditional linoleum is better for the planet, and what inks will clean up with minimum effort. The methods learned are direct and fun, whilst still producing professional results. DALES COUNTRYSIDE MUSEUM, Hawes Tetra Pak Printmaking, 28 May 2024, 1.00 - 3.30pm (£25) In this workshop, for adults, Printmaker Hester Cox will demonstrate how it is possible to make unique and exciting printed images using recycled materials. Taking the Yorkshire Dales landscape, farming and wildlife as your inspiration, she will teach participants simple drypoint skills that can be used on recycled juice and milk cartons to create detailed and professional original prints. This is a direct and quick method enabling participants to explore ideas and develop their skills throughout the afternoon building on what they learn with each print. Family Printmaking Day, 29 May 2024, 10am - 4pm (4 x 1 hour sessions) FREE - booking required Join local printmaker Hester Cox on one of four hour-long sessions and help her create a big print celebrating the wonderful common land of the Yorkshire Dales. You will be making foam stamps inspired by the landscape that supports both sheep and cattle farming and an abundance of wildlife. The stamps will be printed onto a colourful collaborative piece that will then be on display in the museum. Participants can also stamp their designs onto cards to take home or send to friends and family.
